• January 26th, 2009 - No Uncertain Terms: Simplifying Image Licensing in Canada
  
  On November 28th, CAPIC facilitated an IMAGE LICENSING THINK TANK with a select group of industry professionals whose backgrounds and interests represented both consumers and producers of commercial imagery.
• It was an eye-opening event that revealed two alarming situations. The first was the lack of consistency in how image licensing is managed across the country. The second was how the failure to properly license images erodes the artist’s value while complicating the job of those who use photographic and illustrated images.
• However, the Think Tank recognized an opportunity for adoption of new standards that will elevate the professionalism of image procurement in Canada.
• CAPIC is committed to taking a leadership role in the advancement of business standards and best practices and to develop simple tools to help with client education.
• On January 26th, at Glenn Gould Studio, CAPIC invites you to attend No Uncertain Terms, a seminar devoted entirely to the simplification of image licensing in Canada. CAPIC encourages you to take part in this discussion.
• At this event, the PLUS Licensing System (www.useplus.org) - developed by an industry neutral worldwide coalition-will be presented for your consideration by PLUS Co-founder Jeff Sedlik. His presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with leading industry professionals and a Q&A, facilitated by art buyer, Heather Morton. The entire seminar will be web-cast, including the Q&A. The moderator will have the ability to accept questions from those who log on across the country.
• We will also discuss the establishment of a Canadian Regional Working Group to join the PLUS coalition. We look forward to working with you to evolve a well understood, easily managed process that simplifies the communication and management of image licensing.
